I was out for a drive with my wife when I stopped at Grissom AFB. Lighting was good, so, even though the museum was closed, I got out to snap some pictures from the perimeter.

A view of Air Force One as it makes it's final approach into Indianapolis about a year ago. Taken near my wife's work. Can't claim credit for the image - wife's co-worker took it, and did a great job including the flag.

Carmel, IN Artomobilia Car Show

Went to the Artomobilia car show back on August 29th. It was well attended, so getting good photos of the cars was difficult if not impossible. Nice variety as to the cars that were on display. Especially liked the custom Lincoln station wagon.

Basement Bessie

In honor of the 98th Indianapolis 500 held today, some photos I snapped while passing through the Indianapolis Airport. Photos taken at the Colonel H. Weir Cook Terminal.

Although I grew up in Indianapolis, I am not really a racing fan. Didn't find out until I was writing this post that the car, indeed built in a basement, was fabricated in Hammond, IN, not far from where my wife grew up.

Wienermobile sighting

On a recent trip to Wal-Mart on a hunt for Hot Wheels I was delighted to see the Wienermobile on tour. I've seen the one displayed at Henry Ford Museum, and have passed versions on the road a couple of times, but this was the first time I got to see the current version up close. 

70s Style Decor

Indianapolis re-did it's main library (much to my chagrin - the old building had a certain charm that's been lost). One of the editions is this reading chair. Definitely has a 70s vibe about it - can picture it on the set of Logan's Run.

Good Example of weathering

Went to the Indiana State Fair last August and came across this old International Harvester truck while parking. The Indiana School for the Deaf is next to the fairgrounds and overflow parking is available on the campus. The Harvester has certainly seen better days. The building behind it is part of the School for the Deaf. It appears to be closed to perform asbestos removal. I have no idea what the future plans are for it, but it is a jewel of a building, so hopefully it will be refurbished. I am assuming that it is on the National Registry for Historic Buildings.

Everybody needs a hobby - part duex

Something about hot air balloons at early evening always takes my breath away. 

The only time I've been in a balloon is a tethered balloon at Conner Prairie.

Everyone Needs a Hobby

 Even though I grew up and live in Indianapolis, I have never been a racing fan. And the Indy 500 was huge when I was a kid - I remember, when I had a paper route, that the entire month of May had daily coverage in the paper about the upcoming race. Not as big of a deal now, but still fairly huge. That being said, I still have an interest in cars, even if I don't care to see them go around (and around and around) a 2.5 mile oval.

I was surprised to see a rally race starting right outside my office window last June 19. It was sponsored by Rally North America and was the Dixie 2012. I'm always excited to see people enjoying their hobby, whatever it is.

Happy 4th of July

At the Carmel, IN  4th of July parade.  Scottish bagpipe to celebrate American Independence - don't see the connection, but I like it anyway.  Pretty sure that if the Highlanders were involved in AWI, it wasn't on the side of the colonies.  A couple of A-10s did a fly-by at the end, so that was cool.
